6A- Identifying Opportunities in Economic & Regulatory Trends

Economic trends (2)

Housing and Construction

My Sources were in my usual places such as Business trade magazines and an avid CNBC watcher. Some great info also came from the link posted above.

My Belief is the housing and construction markets have been at their highest levels in years with opportunities on all levels, literally from the ground up. The housing market is so strong that certain cities such as Reno and Minneapolis have passed ordinances created to push multi-family type housing. Some states such as Oregon have placed moratoriums on rent increases.

On the construction end of the spectrum, home building is so strong employment stats have reported labor shortages and increasing demand with higher wages. 2020 Construction growth projections are expected to be a 1.7 percent increase. Home prices are up by 5 times the national average family net incomes. The one caution, is that the market doesn’t price itself out of the game, or even worse writing bad loans, hence the 2008 debacle.

My Who is everyone wants to be a homeowner sooner or later. The opportunity of the housing market is that the “American Dream” never goes out of style and is alive and well. Everyone wants to be a homeowner sooner or later.

Exploiting the Opportunity in the housing and construction market is relatively easy in a strong market, ask a realtor. Although, it's all about putting in the time as the trend shows the opportunity is in abundance. My past experience of selling property and having my real estate license lead me to this opportunity.

Healthcare

My Sources as stated above, were in my usual places such as Business trade magazines and an avid CNBC watcher. Some great info also came from the link posted above.

My Belief is you can never go wrong with healthcare as it can only increase with the population growth. Florida has just surpassed New York in taking the third spot below California and Texas in population growth. Additionally Florida ranks #1 with the highest percentage of elderly.

Marc Emmer, President of Optimize, Inc. states the “global expenditure on healthcare is growing at a 5.4% clip and will represent $10 trillion by 2022.”

My Who is Florida's elderly would be the main market segment.

Exploiting healthcare has been under serious scrutiny. With the rebuilding of health care whether privatized or socialized, new opportunities will be in abundance. More outpatient and payment systems will be welcomed to handle the increase. Much like the housing market the opportunity is there for the taking although time is involved.

REGULATORY CHANGES (2)

Marijuana legalization - Open Store where its about to go legal

My Belief - After spending a lot of time in Colorado and experiencing the marijuana boom, I believe once Florida finally passes legalization it will create a huge opportunity in numerous levels such as small business growth, employment increase, and massive tax dollars for the state.

My Who- Medical and recreational customers from 21 on up. The baby boomers that grew up in the drug culture will finally live in the “legalization era.” Additionally, the medical benefits are growing as more studies are being done addressing PTSD and cancer patients.

My Exploiting- marijuana sales will be astounding, some states reported sales of over 3 million on the first day of sales after legalization, although Regulations will be stringent and lets not forget high taxes. As of now 11 states and even Washington D.C. have legalized marijuana. As usual, Florida is behind the curve.

Paid Family Leave and Paid Sick Leave - A Temp Service to fill in for Sick Leave or Pregnant

My Belief- is their will opportunity in the workplace when employees are on paid leave. I believe Temp Services will be in need to fill positions for the temporary gaps.

My Who- is new moms and dads starting or growing families. Additionally those struggling with health issues.

My Exploiting- is to start a temp service as I believe they will be in demand with these new regulation changes.

  1. Hi RA. I enjoyed reading your great post! Housing and Construction is very interesting for me. Last month, there was a huge earthquake in Puerto Rico. A lot of houses were destroyed because they were not designed to resist against the shakes in Puerto Rico. There is a large demand for housings which is resistant against shakes. It is also a big economic trend and I think to focus on the type of buildings helps you analyze the market more deeply! Thank you.

  2. Hi Richard, I enjoyed reading your articles about the trends you found. I would be surprised if we ever got paid leave as a national or even state requirement because labor in the United States just doesn't have the attitude of encouraging employees to take time off. I also wrote about marijuana legalization because so many of the articles I was reading spoke about the huge sales the first day marijuana was legally sold.
