11A Idea Napkin No.1

1) You. Who you are. What your talents are. What your skills and experiences are. Also: what are your aspirations? Specifically regarding your business concept, how do you see this business (if you were to start it) playing a role in your life?

Richard Alfonso - Restaurateur with over 34 years experience in all aspects of the business from design to management to location prospects.
  • Hands on Restaurateur/Mgmt front & back of House / Staff build
  • All daily responsibilities / Ordering front & back of House/ Accounts Receivable
  • Product build and design
  • Florida Real Estate License
  • Former Atlantic Artist with over 36 years of musicianship touring/production/performing/recording/writing

My aspirations are to continue my success in building Alfonso’s Pizza & Sports Bar model into the Colorado area with multiple locations with possible growth into a buy in franchise.

Playing a role in my life - Although I consider myself well versed in what to expect in my industry, every new venture brings new challenges and opportunities to the table. I would start with a single location, give it 5 years, adjust to the market, and make a decision on my next move (another location and where). From previous experience Franchise companies can be risky, I would take my time and find the right avenue to pursue. Florida will become a thing of the past in my future as I’ve had enough of the market, boring landscape, tourism, and find Florida to be extremely materialistic as a whole. I’ve been fond of the west my entire life and believe there is more opportunity, a free thinking approach, and a more progressive mindset.

2) What are you offering to customers? Describe the product or service (in other words, how you'll solve customers' unmet needs).

My product is proven in Orlando and Tampa/St. Pete market by winning numerous awards like the Orlando Sentinel best pizza for 5 years and the numerous write ups stemming from the Florida west coast to Orlando. With an atmosphere to match consisting of 50 TV’s, full liquor bar, live music, and let's not forget delivery 7 days a week 11am - 2am for those who want to stay home and relax. Our FULL menu consists of pizza, wings, sandwiches, pasta dinners, salads and various deserts all made in house.

3) Who are you offering it to? Describe, in as much detail as possible, the demographic and psychographic characteristics of your customers. Think especially of this question: what do your customers all have in common?

The beauty of Alfonso’s Pizza & Sports Bar is that it caters to everyone, from all members of the family to the single guy or gal that is looking for a Friday night out to have a drink and catch a band. We also have kids night with different activities for the children. Delivery also comes in handy on some of the slower nights to keep numbers in the black.

4) Why do they care? Your solution is only valuable insofar as customers believe its valuable to them. Here, explain why customers will actually pay you money to use your product or service.

Pizza & wings, like eating out, will never go out of style! Having a great PROVEN product and a fun relaxed atmosphere to match is the key. Additionally, my proven track record shows the validity of my product.

5) What are your core competencies? What sets you apart from everyone else? Also: what do you have that nobody else has?

Combining Award winning pizza, with live music, delivery, and a full liquor bar is something hard to find and sets us apart from the rest. Many restaurants have some of these characteristics but to find them all under one roof sets the precedence.

In addition to these five elements, please spend a paragraph evaluating whether you believe these elements fit together or whether there are aspects of your business concept that are weaker / out-of-joint with the others.

As explained from the five elements above, I have made a living out of combining these elements for many years. All of the elements have also been proven time and time again in many variations from current and prior entrepreneurs. Combining these aspects in the right location is the real trick. I believe wholeheartedly that all of the elements discussed will fit together.

  1. Hi RA, thank you for sharing your wonderful experiences and skills. From your past posts, I guess you have a strong passion to try new things. For example, to get a real estate licence in another state. Your passion is definitely one of your best advantages and I suppose it should have helped in your life. You are so energetic and passionate. I agree with your conclusion. All elements are connected with each other. Good post!
